Product Review (submitted on October 27, 2015):
After acquiring a video device with only an HDMI output, I
embarked on the process of trying to figure out how to fit
that into my home entertainment system that only had
component cables run between my A/V receiver (which supported
HDMI, but I didn't use) and my TV that was only about 15 feet
away... but it seemed like a mile when a tug on an existing
component wire didn't budge at all and dashed my dreams of
using one of those to pull through an HDMI cable.
I looked at a few wireless HDMI transmitters, and I selected
this one primarily because it seemed to not require any
manual intervention during typical use. According to some of
my reading about competing products, several had power
buttons that required a press to bring them online, or had a
remote control to accomplish that and for switching between
multiple sources. Instead the Nyrius simply dropped into both
ends of my system, and it seamlessly comes out of standby
when it detects an input signal, and goes back into standby
after being idle for a period.
I've only had to cycle the power on it once in over a month
due to the signal not appearing to kick in when I expected it
to. The one other feature that some completing units had was
a loop-through option to carry the input signal through the
transmitter and out to a local TV. While that wasn't
important for me, I could imagine it might factor into some
other people's decision. I guess you could always by a
separate HDMI splitter though.
Overall, this product perfectly met my needs, and it is
working like a charm, and had me up and running much more
quickly than coordinating with a contractor to snake a wire,
or trying my hand at remaining the many points in my wall
board and ceiling that I would have had to cut holes in.
I highly recommend it.
