Product Review (submitted on October 27, 2015):
I followed FredB's advice, and everything works well. I'm
sending the stream from my DVR in the living room through a
splitter to the NAVS500. It transmits to my exercise room on
the lower floor, where the InfraRed adapter allows full
control of the DVR from downstairs. I've got everything
downstairs - TV, audio, and the NAVS500 receiver - one one
power strip, I turn the strip on and everything syncs fine.
Upstairs I put the transmitter on Standby to save power when
it's not needed - the transmitter needs to be back to full
function before the receiver (the downstairs power strip) is
turned on. The warning in the manual about moving things too
much once it's on seems to be true, turn the receiver off and
then on again if you reposition things and lose the signal.
If things don't seem to work, turn all off, turn the
transmitter on, then turn the receiver on.
I've had this for a couple of weeks now. The NAVS500 has been
flawless, but THE FIRST HDMI SPLITTER I GOT FAILED. Amazon
refunded, and I re-ordered the same one, I thought, because
the reviews were good (when they worked). The splitters have
the same name, but are sold by different vendors - the one
that works is (2-Port 1-in, 2-out HDMI Certified Amplified
Splitter with Power Sold by: MarginMart, Inc.), which has a
US power plug. The original one that didn't work (it worked
sporadically, but could take several minutes, then it failed
entirely) had a European power plug that needed a (supplied)
adapter - this bad one was (2-Port 1-in, 2-out HDMI Certified
Amplified Splitter with Power Sold by: YNF Trading Inc.) I
don't know if MarginMart and YNF Trading are the same, but
I'd choose MarginMart when ordering again.
