Reading the time on the clock is ok, however the projection of the time on a ceiling or on a wall is useless. I held the clock two feet from my black pants leg and could not see the time. I bought the clock so I could place it on a shelf right behind me in my living room and project the time on the wall behind my TV. The distance is about 10 feet. Like I said before the time would not even project the time 2 feet away. If you are in need of a projection clock, you need to look somewhere else. As far as telling time it is ok but as far as projecting that time, you are going to be out of luck.
