The Soundbar Killer - Review by Joe N Tell
"They get more than loud enough, it's a super flat frequency response... I don't know what else you can ask for when it comes to speakers, for me, these are the holy grail when it comes to speakers."

Great sound. I did need to buy an EBTech HUM-X ground loop AC eliminator to remove the loud speaker hiss. Apparently this hiss is common in speakers with built-in amplifiers so it is no mark against the speakers itself, though it did add a substantial extra cost ($75) relative to the initial cost of the speakers so worth bearing in mind.
Also, when it arrived the left RCA input seemed broken, the left speaker would work via Bluetooth but not RCA. I guess it's lucky I didn't just send it back - I opened the casing checked inside and could clearly see that one of the small plugs was only half plugged in. Plugged back in and wrapped it with some electrical tape and good to go. This may have happened in transit so again can't conclusively put to quality control. However together these two issues did interfere with my initial enjoyment and require some time to fix in terms of trying the him filter (and being lucky it did work) so I need to remove a star. Great sound after that though! -
Bought a set to go with the TV (instead of a soundbar) and Kodi set-up. After purchase I found out that our TV-set doesn't support RCA out. I purchased an HDMI splitter and initially no sound came from the speakers. Had to change a setting in Kodi and sound came through. This is a great speaker set that sound great and because of the small form factor are not intrusive.

The AI40 sounds great, is easy to setup, and when it goes on sale for under $250 CAD it's hard to beat. The aptX Bluetooth connectivity is a nice bonus.
I bought it as an alternative to a soundbar and in that regard it works great. Definitely sounds better than any sound bar I've heard for music and is more than competent for small to medium room home theaters.
Due to the sealed design I also tried using it with my Desktop PC. There is an annoying buzzing sound that alot of active speakers have a problem with. Talked to Fluance's customer service team about it and they were very helpful. They sent a replacement power supply that significantly reduced that amount of buzzing on the RCA input. I can no longer hear it from 15 ft away. However, from 5 ft away it is still annoying enough that I can't use the AI40 on my desktop.
Bottom-line if you're in the market for a sub $300 CAD soundbar give these a try. You'll be pleasantly surprised. From other reviews the amount noise from the RCA input seems to be hit and miss; so think twice about using the AI40 on desktop -
I paired these speakers with my old Audio-Technica AT-LP120XUSB turntable (which I replaced with a Fluance 85 TT), and gifted the system to a recent college grad as an introduction to the joys of vinyl records. I am very pleased by the result.

I'm pleasantly surprised by the clarity of and quality of these two small bookshelf speakers. The treble and mid-range on them is phenomenal and they provide enough audio power for multiple small, connected rooms.
Hooking them up to an audio technica turntable was straightforward and bluetooth pairing only takes seconds when guests want to share music. Overall, an incredibly versatile pair of speakers that are subtle and stylish. -
I love this speakers

This little bookshelf speaker is truly a wonder. This level of performance is astonishing in regards to its price. Never have I heard something so good for less than 300$. This small acoustic suspension has best of both worlds: articulate sound and real low bass extension. DSP is certainly a main magical component in the recipe here, but the drivers themselves must be quite exceptional also. Midrange and highs are just as good and quite balanced. Bravo Fluance ! I am impressed and I would recommend the Ai40.

There was so much hype around these speakers that they could not possibly live up to my expectations, and they didn't. They aren't bad speakers, but definitely a step down from my B&W speakers, which I moved into another room.
-
they have excellent sound, no distortion, beautiful design and the bass are surprisingly good for speakers of this size

These speakers are amazing! I consider myself to be a bit of an audiophile and I am impressed with these. I paired them to my Samsung TV via Bluetooth and the sound quality is flawless. No buzzing or hum at all. The other night we were watching TV and I actually paused to say ...'who is bumping their bass outside our house?'... The bass was gone when I paused it. It was the background noise on the show I was watching! I have them set at full treble and 6/10 bass. I got the white and bamboo and they match my TV stand! (I'll upload a pic later.)

If you’re on the fence about purchasing the AI 40... it’s time to get off... lol. These are great performing speakers for the price. The Bluetooth works perfect and amplified speakers are the future, as the amp is tuned to the speakers, with ample power for a small to medium size room. My listening lounge is roughly 13x15 and the sound is perfect.
Treble: highs are clear, but not overly bright preventing listening fatigue, plus with the included remote you can adjust to your liking.
Mids: smooth and well balanced without being to forward.
Bass: Very right and punchy, but if you’re a bass head then the AI60’s (my buddy just bought a pair) is a better fit as you can add a subwoofer ( with that option was on the AI40’s, but considering the price point I get the omission.
Phantom center: (brief explanation; this is when you can hear the vocals in the center as intended depending on the recording). Perfect!!! I had to angle mine a bit towards my sitting sweet spot, which I recommend for critical listening.
Stereo Separation; Check our the song “Moving In Stereo” by The Cars and you won’t be disappointed. If you close your eyes, you can hear the vocals moving across and visualize where the instruments are... very cool and fun.
Overall these are a great value and worth the price. Nice work fluance. One final note; took them over to my buddies to jam in his sunroom... both of them were amazed as to how clean, detailed, and how tight the bass is. One of them bought the AI60’s within a week (probably to one up me... lol). Oh and one of my favorite features is these are banana clip friendly. Check out the cables by Mediabridge on Amazon (only need to buy one)... the sound clarity was noticeable from the thin 18gauge wire included. Mediabridge one I bought was 12guage. -
The Ai40 have amazing sound quality I'm happy win how clear the records sound. The Bluetooth on the speakers a great added value

Using as direct speakers for an Audio Technica turntable, sound & look awesome on our console table. Build quality is nice, and remote and button on speaker feel durable and smooth. Probably a little bass heavy, but I'm using them for enjoying records and not necessarily reference speakers for mixing or anything like that.
-
I'm not sure if you can top the "bang for buck" factor with the AI40's. No fatigue, tight bass and really rich sound coming out of these pleasantly designed compact boxes. You don't want them to be anything but what they are: outstanding powered bookshelf speakers at an exceptional price.

Solid speakers, was looking for some speakers for my pc and was recommended fluance. New to audio setups and it was pretty easy to setup. If buying you should consider looking into getting some banana plugs though its not required.

Absolutely! Ai40 speakers are also powered by their own internal amplifier so additional equipment such as receivers and amplifiers are not required. If your turntable does not include an internal preamp, and external preamp will be necessary.

No! Ai40 Powered Bookshelf Speakers do not require additional equipment to power them as they are driven by an internal 70 Watt amplifier.
