  1. Great "bang for buck" product for the price. 0 people found this helpful

I was initially set to purchase the Ai40, but these were on sale for 199.99, only 30 bucks more than the Ai40s. I needed a quick solution for bedroom audio: I no longer wanted to use a dedicated amp and speakers and thought these would be an ideal option. At first, I was unimpressed. However, I let them "burn-in" for the suggested time indicated in the manual. After this, these began to impress me. Bluetooth sounded decent, however, the sound is noticeably much better using the Toslink and USB input coming from my Macbook.Separation and imaging are great, and they do a good job of creating a phantom center. Some music sounds bass-heavy, even with the bass lowered to its minimum. One solution was to adjust the equalizer from your source(Tidal, Spotify, Ipad, etc). They get loud without too much distortion, but they sound best at moderate to lower volumes.Does it sound as good as my main system? No, and that's ok. What it does provide is a great, fun listening experience for a decent price. If you're just beginning, or need a good, basic setup for a den, living area, or bedroom, this is perfect. Not audiophile-grade, but still a great, everyday set of speakers. Definitely worth checking out.

Uncharted territory for me, as the thought of spending more on the speakers than the turntable was a little hard to fathom, but saw them on sale, and can’t stop listening! Additional functionality like subwoofer our and mini USB in, plus the heavier low end compared to the Ai40, these are next level

  3. Great value 0 people found this helpful

Really good performance for the price. However, I wouldn’t consider the SQ as hi-fi, but rather enjoyable. They are nice to listen to and really nice to look at so they fit well in many decors, but soundwise, it lacks DR (they are underpowered). So I use them as bedroom TV speakers, and they really get the job done at low to medium volume, and great wife/husband acceptance factor. I wouldn’t use them as bookshelf speakers though, as they can’t replace speakers with generous legit AB amplification. But for the cost and convenience, they are hard to beat. Nice job Fluance!

  4. Unremarkable for the price 0 people found this helpful

The sound is clean but lacks the richness and character I was hoping for when using with a turntable. I also found the bass to be generally underwhelming.

  5. Updated...The RCA input sounds terrible and the Customer Service is even worse. 0 people found this helpful
    Overall Performance

EDIT: I added a star. A significant amount of the problem was the preamp. That was after 3 weeks of tracking down customer service (who still doesn't seem to care...figured it out on my own. So cusfomer service is still a MAJOR issue). The DSP still seems to make the dynamics a little flat on the RCA channel but it isn't so bad that I will pack them up and send them away. Still not 100% but will keep them and see what happens. Hopefully I won't need support from them again.Optical in sounded awesome. The bluetooth worked great and sounded amazing. My turntable sounded awful. The turntable sounded awesome with the smaller Edifiers I had so I expected to be wowed. I did a ton of research. I nearly bought some towers and an amp but I decided to go minimal and get these (after TONS of research). Every time any amount of bass hit on the RCA line it would get really quiet. Like it was protecting the speakers. It doesn't do this on any of the other inputs. Just the RCA. I thought maybe it was the cables but I switched them out and it was fine. I have a Fluance turntable so it should be a great match.I've tried contacting customer service for the past 9 days. NO ONE answers. I've emailed and all I've received are emails telling me they are busy and will get back to me soon. I have 30 days to try these out and now I need to waste some time returning them. Not sure what is next but I'll probably be speakerless for awhile while I wait for the money to get back on my card. What a waste of time and energy. Really sad. I desperately wanted to like these. But between the lack of customer service and the quality of sound on one input, I'm going to have to just start all over again. :(
